Care-home family updates: a practical reminiscence video service
Families appreciate seeing meaningful moments from a relative's day. Care-home teams already organise activities and capture memories, but turning approved material into regular updates can take time.

What the service could include
A short video using approved photographs and clips, readable captions and suitable music or optional narration. A family update might show an activity or celebration; a reminiscence piece might use chosen photographs, places and familiar themes.

The care home's role
Your team chooses suitable material, supplies accurate context and decides who can receive it. A named staff member reviews each draft before release. Participation and sharing permissions need to follow the home's established process.
Provide only the material needed for the agreed output. Sensitive care records are not required for a simple family-update video. The project scope should identify approved tools, access, storage duration and the process for correcting or removing content.
A manageable workflow
Start with one home, one activity group or a small approved set of updates. Agree the upload route, video length, frequency, review deadline and revision allowance. Staff send the selected content; DGMC prepares a draft; the home checks it; the approved version is delivered.
Remote delivery means the home remains responsible for capturing the material. The quality and timing of the finished video depend on receiving usable content and the required approval.
Optional additions
Depending on the brief, the service could extend to communal photo-board content, themed activity materials or a QR information page for families. These are separate deliverables with their own scope and review requirements.
Reminiscence content is an engagement offering. We do not promise clinical improvements or present a video service as medical treatment, monitoring or a substitute for staff contact.
What to measure in a pilot
Track staff time spent preparing and reviewing material, whether updates are delivered on schedule, and feedback from participating families and staff. These observations help the home decide whether the service fits its routines.
